Manipulation Of Lines And Circles To Create "Expressions"

Name

Expressions dictates the existence of expressions to counter the idea that art is emotionless.

Where a simple set of lines and shapes can be interpreted as authentic expressions.

Concept

I was thinking of doing some sort of concept art for my mascot of Arubaito. It ended up being 3 sets of lines that looks like the "bored" face. It was then I realized that simple lines can create an expression, such as emojis, and I went further to add circles and lines to create the following: The "Bored Face" and the "Judge Face".

Progression

I was thinking of ways to enhance the experience of Expressions. How would people understand that the point of Expressions is that we are the ones interpreting these lines and circles as faces?

Well one of the ideas I had was add a definition on the back of the shirt as followed.

In my mind back then, I felt that the definition of expression coordinates well with the overall shirt. However after future modifications, the design lost the intention I wanted to create. I want people to figure out the point of this shirt, rather than giving them the answer with this flimsy word combination.

So I eventually removed it and realized I can use PhotoShop to add some details to the front of the shirt.

Execution

PhotoShop has a neat tool to where you can rotate objects in the easiest manner. I basically just copied and pasted the "Judge Face" and rotated the "Eye-Brows" and what ended up happening is the creation of two expressions that are practically the polar opposites to each other.

And now I went from two to four expressions and it really gives this design a personality, which would end up to being one of my most popular designs among my friends and family.

Some people say simplicity is just being lazy with art.

Yet Expressions bring out the most emotion from 2 shapes.
